Lagotto Romagnolo

Lagotto Romagnolo is a small / medium sized dog with a square build and rustic appearance. Lagotto Romagnolo may be a ‘teddy bear’ on the outside, but is definitely cuddly. Make no mistake, it is clever and it will keep you on your toes. Under a curly, dense coat with a woolly texture there is a robust and sturdy dog, well built for work.

Lagotto Romagnolo is a working dog and is an ancient breed for water retrieving known in Italy since the 16th century in the lowlands of Comacchio and the marshlands of Ravenna. Over the centuries, the great marshlands were drained and turned into arable land. Since the 19th century this intelligent breed has been utilized as an excellent dog for searching truffles on any type of terrain. Thanks to It’s very highly developed sense of smell and it’s ability to concentrate on the search it is not easily distracted by the scent of wild animals or other dogs.

Personality

Lagotto Romagnolo is not only a working dog, it is also an excellent loving and friendly companion. It is loyal, keen, affectionate and develops a special bond with the owner and is easy to train. It is good with kids and can live happily with cats and other dogs as long as they are well socialized as a puppy. Adoring of humans and devoted to the family, it loves to be in your company no matter what you’re doing, especially in activities like swimming, walking, searching truffles…

Lagotto Romagnolo is an excellent family companion. It is also a very good warning dog, it is not an excessive barker but it will let you know when the mail arrives or when someone’s at the door, so prepare your guests for a noisy welcome.

All the Lagotti Romagnoli are sensitive and in-tune with their beloved pet parent’s feelings.

Activities

It has quite a bit of stamina and needs quite a bit of exercise. It is really intelligent and it needs a job to keep its mind occupied: truffle hunting, tracking, games of searching, obedience, agility, swimming…

It can do them all and enjoy each minute of it.

We live with our lagotti 24/7 and not vice versa, they come first. Everything that we do is for them and we do not take short cuts.
We think that on top of having an excellent pedigree, being healthy (all our Lagotti are tested) it is important that they are happy and loved dogs, they are members of our family.

Expertise

I am italian and I lived 40 years of my life in Italy before relocating to Oregon. In Italy I bred high quality english bulldogs (yes, we have a spoiled english bulldog his name is Elliott). English bulldogs require lots of attention and particular care. On top of the particular needs of the lagotti, We apply the same extreme attention and care to all our lagotti and puppies.

We endeavor, from collaboration to decision-making, we have transparency, honesty, and sincerity in everything we do for our Lagotti and for the breed. Each litter has been planned in order to have high quality puppies and both parents are tested. We are also members of the AKC Coos Kennel Club and the Club Italiano Lagotto.
